Lesson 2: Worldviews
Theism- the belief that God and the Universe are separate
Pantheism/Acosmism- the belief that God and the Universe are identical
Panentheism- the belief that the Universe is in God (All in God)
Materialistic world- A world filled with the lust of earthly objects/ the act of temporary filling a void in your heart with materials
As Christians and humans, we have worldviews. However, there are three different types of worldviews. Theistic Worldviews, Pantheistic Worldviews (or Acosmism), and Panentheistic Worldviews. In this lesson, I will be informing Christians or even non-believers on the types of worldviews and how they can change your view of the overall materialistic world.
A Theistic Worldview states that God and the universe are separate. I personally have a Theistic Worldview (Genesis 1:1).
(Genesis 1:1- “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”)
Keynote: The creation of Heaven and Earth are separate. If Heaven and Earth were one place, then the Bible would’ve specified the location.
How can a Theistic worldview change your overall view on creation? Since we know what a Theistic worldview is, we can use our knowledge and wisdom to relate it to the beauty of creation.
God created himself separate from creation because he knew our world would reflect sin and mirror sorrow. It would not be fair for us to say that God is corrupt.
A Pantheistic worldview or Acosmism states that God and the Universe are identical. If someone had a Pantheistic worldview I would not disagree or agree with them because it depends on the way others think about it. (Genesis 2:4)
(Genesis 2:4- “This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created when the LORD God made the earth and the heavens.”
Keynote: In Genesis (the beginning), Adam and Eve were created, and God’s creation was perfect. The Pantheistic worldview states that the Universe and God are identical. During this Biblical time period, the Universe looked like God. The Universe looked like God’s love and peace. But then, sin entered the world-destroying, humans, everything that is made in God’s image into a Weapon of Destruction.
Weapon of Destruction- Our words can build someone up or can destroy one’s spirit but one’s spirit cannot affect one’s soul.
Satan uses us humans as a Weapon of Destruction to turn others away from God.
Panentheistic worldviews state that the Universe is in God. As a Christian with a Theistic worldview, I am going to disagree with the Universe is in God. Saying the Universe in God is saying that hate is in God. Our Universe has been destroyed by sin. By having a Panentheistic worldview, you are saying that sin is in God which is not true.
Case Study:
1. What are the three worldviews and what is each one’s belief?
2. What is your worldview?
3. How can you prove your worldview is correct?
4. Are worldviews based on factual information or opinions?
5. How is our Biblical worldview structure more stable than the Humanistic worldview structure?
6. Other than humans, what can be used as a Weapon of Destruction (Spiritually)?
